Great location. Lovely owners.
Pros: Had the greatest stay at Chelito’s backpackers. Beautiful husband and wife running, super sweet Downton location near the San Pedro station and market/ in the not so touristy part of town. Loved it and would stay again. Especially in top room with views of street. Helpful kind couple. Cute courtyard to sit in.

Cute hostel/homestay in a quiet area and lovely hosts!
Pros: Quiet location, the owners are so so lovely!! Even though we don’t speak Spanish we still found a way to communicate and laugh with each other. Facilities are clean with hot showers. We left our stuff here for 1 week while we were hiking, they keep it safe and locked away. They have the cutest dog and a kitten, I loved playing with them.
Cons: We stayed in a double room with shared bathroom the first time and a double room with private bathroom when we returned and the room with the private bathroom was more comfortable and warmer than the rooms with the shared bathroom.

Peaceful little hostal in Cusco
Pros: The hostal is in a lovely quiet area still close to the city centre. It is clean and well equipped with everything you need. The owners Ita and her husband are lovely and accomodating, they helped us with recommendations of things to do in Cusco and even let us store our luggage and also check in late when we got back to Cusco very late after doing the Salkantay trek.
Cons: Everything was great

A Home in Cusco (with Bonus Cat Therapy)
Pros: This place is the perfect stay in Cusco if you’re looking for comfort, character, and a cat with zero boundaries. It’s super affordable, and the owners are so lovely that walking in kind of felt like returning to your parents’ house, if your parents lived in the middle of Cusco’s old town and didn’t judge your travel laundry situation. The location is unbeatable, right in the historical centre, close to all the touristy things you think you’ll do, and safe enough that your only real concern is how many alpaca sweaters you’re going to end up with. The highlight? A chonky little cat that will 100% steal your heart (and maybe your food). It sat on my lap like we’d known each other for years, and honestly, I haven’t felt that emotionally supported since leaving home.
Cons: The showers were doing their best (lukewarm at best) and the Wi-Fi in the rooms liked to play hide and seek, but hang out in the common area and you’re golden. Would stay again just for the cat cuddles and the feeling of home. And yes, I miss the cat already.
