Pros: I felt very comfortable. Quiet, clean, and well equipped. The great contact and friendly manner of the hostess deserve special mention. She went out of her way to help me organize a daytrip and answer all my questions. The only downside is that it's a little far from the center, but you can combine it with a longer walk or shorten the trip by taking a taxi.

Pros: Really comfy beds, great showers (best I've had in south America so far), best stocked kitchen in any hostel (minus a tin opener but minor detail), gorgeous roof terrace. And the owner was very kind and let us hang out and cook dinner after we'd checked out.
Cons: Internal walls / windows meant rooms were a tiny bit noisy depending on the guest next door (and their phone going off late into the night). Otherwise, perfect!

clean, comfortable stay with lovely staff
Pros: Hostel was very clean, bed was comfortable and warm, bathroom/shower facilities were excellent! Lovely warm shower and great water pressure. Staff were very helpful and kind. Rooftop was beautiful.
Cons: The location is pretty far from the main square, a half an hour walk.

Pros: Our stay at Casa Kutimuy was excellent. A very clean hostel with great view and good kitchen facilities. Marlene the host is very hospitable and flexible allowing early check-in and late check-outs for us travelling with the night bus. Even 5:30 am was not too early. Also close to the airport for those travelling by plane.

Pros: Melissa, and her brother, are incredibly helpful. She helped me book a tour and a taxi, she made recommendations on where and what to eat. It's rare to get such great attention! The hostel is very clean and has a nice rooftop terrace, clean showers with hot water and one of the best equipped (and cleanest!) kitchen I have seen in a hostel. There are tons of places to have breakfast or dinner in the surroundings, including a local market. The hostel was very quiet during my stay: I was the only guest while I was there. But I'd definitely sleep there again if I went back to Ayacucho!
Cons: The hostel is a bit far away from the center. It's a ~25 min walk on busy streets to the Plaza de Armas.

Pros: Nice, big room. Kitchen was reallh nice aswell. Has everything you need to make your breakfast/dinner.
Cons: Hostel has a nice outdoor space, rooftop. They have a nice corner to sit but the pillows where really sandy, would be nice if they get cleaned or have something to clean it with upstairs so we could do it ourselfs.

6 days of learning about Andean culture having some of the best food of my life !!
Pros: Melissa was out of town during our stay, but this was not a problem at all. She was very clear in all communication and relayed every important info to her brother, who checked us in and lives adjacent to the hostel. We ended up being in a private room, despite booking a dorm, because we had the dorm to ourselves! They even checked people into a different dorm room during our stay so we could continue to just be sisters in one room - at no extra cost! Melissa let us check in at 8am on the day we arrived and was so informative throughout - we had a wonderful time and adored our stay in Ayacucho.
Cons: Having read the other reviews, I understand what people say about it not being a very social hostel, but that is because Ayacucho is predominantly traveled to by Peruvian tourists - it is off the beaten path for extranjeros, you should know this before you come. This should NOT stop you - bring a good book, soak up the view, and the food, and chat (as much as you can) with some of the kindest people I've met.
